The Los Volcanes Pre-K site is located at 6500 Los Volcanes NW near Coors and Central. We are close to Share Your Care (adult daycare) and are affiliated with the Los Volcanes Senior Center. The Senior Center invites us to many functions throughout the year. One year we participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for a new fitness center. Our children received jumpers to wear on the occasion and were served a delicious luncheon. Our class has been invited to watch the Miguel Carro and Aztec dancers and to hear mariachi musical groups. We are included in the Share Your Care schedule twice a month, giving us a treasured opportunity to interact with senior citizens. Our children sing, dance and play games with the elders and sometimes entertain them with performances we create in our classroom. In addition, to our three City of Albuquerque site staff, our class of twenty children also enjoys the assistance of a member of the City Grandparent Program. Our center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Our yearly program begins in August and ends the following July. Our calendar schedule is not the same as the Albuquerque Public Schools because our child development center is part of the City of Albuquerque’s Division of Child and Family Development Services. All children enrolled in Pre-K attend our year-round program. We can offer parents who are working or going to school wrap-around childcare services before or after Pre-K sessions, which are paid for by families on a sliding fee scale. Wrap-around services can begin at 7:00 A.M. and end at 5:30 P.M. to accommodate parents’ working or school schedules. Our Pre-K program strives to provide quality care and education in a safe learning environment that is child-centered with a developmentally appropriate curriculum which includes early literacy, thinking, reasoning, problem solving, fine and gross motor development, language and communication skills, creative development and social-emotional competency.
