Youth Development, Inc. is a community based non-profit organization serving children, youth, and families since 1971. YDI provides Head Start, Early Head Start and Prek services to children in a tri-county area including Bernalillo, Rio Arriba and Taos Counties. Our expressed mission is to make a lasting positive change in the lives of children and their families by providing a comprehensive program of collaborative services.
Services for children include:
- a multi-cultural educational program that is tailored to children’s individual needs, fosters their self-esteem, and develops cognitive, language, motor and social skills
- medical and dental screenings and follow-up treatment, along with classroom lessons that emphasize a variety of preventative health practices
- evaluation, diagnosis, and special services, along with a nurturing mainstreamed classroom environment for children with special needs
- nutritious meals and snacks eaten in family style settings, along with nutrition education in the classroom and for parents to use at home
- regular field trips where children can enjoy and explore the world around them
Funded by the State of New Mexico, Children, Youth and Families Department, YDI Pre-K provides universal access for four-year old children to voluntary, high quality prekindergarten programs. There are no income guidelines to be eligible for Pre-K programs. As part of Moving New Mexico Forward, voluntary Pre-K is an essential element in the overall approach to meeting the critical needs of children. Pre-K provides developmentally appropriate activities for children, expands early childhood community capacity, supports linguistically and culturally appropriate curriculum, and focuses on school readiness.
