Christina Kent Early Childhood Center is a non-profit early childhood education program that has operated in downtown Albuquerque since 1919. Christina Kent’s mission is to provide quality childcare, early education and nutritional services in a safe and nurturing environment to economically diverse, working families. Christina Kent enrolls 62 children, ages two to five. We are a full-day, year-round center. Christina Kent is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children and holds the five-star rating for licensing through the State of NM Children, Youth and Families Department. We participate in the Federal Child and Adult Care Food Program to provide healthy meals for students. Christina Kent supports a full-time staff with on-site professional development in reflective practice and inquiry-based learning. Relationships are at the heart of learning. The collaboration between family, child, teacher, and environment are key to the child’s learning experience. Our PreK program received funding from the State of NM for an extended-day program (Six hours of PreK per day). Once per month, our PreK families participate in Explora Science Center and Children’s Museum’s “Growing a Scientist Program.” The NM PreK supports our 4-year-olds to become lifelong learners.
